Why Oprah Winfrey’s [@Oprah] Golden Globe Speech Will transcend Throughout 2018

Last night at the 75th Golden Globe awards Oprah Winfrey won the Cecil B. Demille award, the first African American women to do so.

Her heartfelt speech captured the attention of everyone in attendance and ended with a standing ovation by her peers in the television and film industry.  Winfrey spoke on the in-balance of power between women and men , not just in the entertainment world but in the  real world itself. Her delivery so powerful and engaging, it was evident it was a speech that would remind us all why Oprah is such a role model to so many young women and girls around the world.

“What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have, I am especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong and empowered enough to speak up and tell their personal stories.” – Oprah Winfrey 75th Golden globes

The recent exposure of film producer Harvey Weinstein sexually abusing women dating back to over twenty years ago in the entertainment industry is a topic that is relevant in all industries. The patriarchal system that we live in today allows men to convey over -bearing and inappropriate dominance in the work place  and things are finally starting to change. Women are understanding that they do have a voice and that being strong means to speak up and to not suffer in silence.

Women continue to break down the barriers that have been systematically put in place in order to keep a patriarchal society.  Women are taking on roles and conquering stereotypes to show little girls that they can become whom ever they want to be when they grow up. Oprah’s speech comes at a time when the wind is blowing in a different direction, people are questioning the world they live in and looking for answers themselves.
