Shanghai designer Junne makes stunning LFW [@Fashionscout] debut

Fashion designer Liu Yanjun made her London Fashion Week debut with a collection that couldn’t be more suited to the city. Liu founded her brand Junne in 2016 and joined Fashion Scout’s AW19 international talent displaying her collection at Freemasons Hall. The young designer is based in Shanghai and  In 2017 she won Shanghai Fashion Week’s business potential award.

The designer displayed her latest collection in a room full of fashion ready people. The Catwalk scheduled for late morning on a Sunday which meant that people would be awake enough but starting the feel the exhaustion from the non-stop shows. The Show did well to immediately grab everyone’s attention. As a new designer, the room wasn’t sure what to expect.  Her work on social media showed her incredible knitting ability but the question was what would she bring to London Fashion Week. Starting the show with encapsulating sounds of chimes, drums, and callings straight away made her imagination centre the room. The models began to walk out in fluorescent and futuristic knits. The idea of something traditional like knitting is juxtaposed with modern materials like PVC and safety pins.

Liu did not fail to present her hometown in the show. The collection had subtle Chinese influences which made it even more authentic. Examples of this included the model’s hair styled with hair sticks and traditional knotted hairstyles. Mixing Chinese aesthetics with a futuristic palette brought a real fantasy to life.

In a short interview with GUAP, she let us know more behind the collection.

What were the ideas behind the collection?

It’s all about freedom!

Who is the girl who is collection is inspired by and what is her story?

It’s a mystery. It is inspired by different Greek Myths, love stories and family affairs.

Why did you choose to display in London?

I like this city so much! I already had a show in Shanghai and I choose London because this is the international city for fashion. There is so much art and inspiration in London.
