[@FastLaneWez] Speaks On ‘That Thing’ & His Career In Music

All round multi-talented individual, FastLane Wez has been circling the scene for some time now and recently dropped another  banger as he returns to the limelight with his new single ‘That Thing‘.

I spoke to the superstar about his latest song, life in music and asked him five fire questions, check it out below.

For those who don’t know you, can you introduce yourself.

I’m Fastlane Wez, I grew up in North London – I’m a vocalist, writer & producer. I do music.

Where did your love for music stem from?

I would say my family, my music has a gritty element it, but I always listen to music and go to clubs with my brothers. I used to listen to a lot of So Solid Crew especially ‘Ride with Us’.

At what stage in your life did you think I can do music and did you face any struggles within that period?

Yes, I faced a lot of struggles, it’s confidence as well you’ve got to build it up. Because I’m bubbly and my energy is electric, people think I’m confident but I’m actually not that confident. People love me when I’m lively and hype but it’s hard to keep that consistent level of energy up.

When I was doing dance music I was loving it, as swell as the djing side of it. All my peers are rappers, (J Hus, Krept & Konan) and when I went to their shows, I started to realise this is what I want. I want to have a banger.

Was rapping something you always wanted to do?

I wouldn’t call myself a rapper. Vocalising tracks is not easy because you’ve got to get it so right. If your delivery, energy & emotion don’t connect, a good song will go over your heads.

People like Drake shined a-lot of light on the UK music scene. Because of ‘One Dance’ and ‘Controlla’ he bought it to the forefront and I thought I could run with this sound. It’s like the new R&B/Dance music and that’s why so many people are doing it now because it gives us hope.

How long does it take you to make a track in the studio?

I could make a track in 10 minutes, the next track coming I made in 45 minutes. The best ones come naturally.

Your new single ‘That Thing’, what headspace and environment was you in when made it?

I made it in a studio called ‘Black Rock’ in Santorini. I like to be different and in London the energy can sometimes be overwhelming, and I searched for studio abroad. It’s a mansion on top of a hill in a secluded area and I stayed there for a week.

What are we expecting from you in the near future?

My new track called ‘Liking’, it’s on its way.

5 Fire Questions.

  1. Kim Kardashian or Beyonce – Kim Kardashian
  2. Krept and Konan – Both
  3. The Intent or Adulthood – The Intent
  4. Thailand or Miami – Miami
  5. Hakkasan or Nobu –  Hakkasan
