GUAP Mix 006: [@atbamz]

GUAP Mix 006: [@atbamz]

We won’t be surprised if #BamzGotBangerz  is a trending hashtag before the end of the year.

Didn’t get a summer holiday abroad? Then look no further because Bamz has you covered with her 30-minute mix of pure global vibes with sounds ranging from South Africa, Ghana, Portugal, Jamaica & St Lucia.

Bamz is the latest DJ to step into the GUAP Mix, bringing serious flavours. At only 21 years old and hailing from South London, Bamz has kicked down the doors of the music circuit with her own unique vibe all whilst being a producer in her own right and DJ for Nadia Rose. This year alone has seen her career take her to Copenhagen, Zurich, Geneva and even Glastonbury Festival. Trust in us when we say #BamzGotBangerz

Interview:

Tell us a bit about what people can expect to hear from this mix?

I advise you stretch and have water near by because this mix is jam packed with high energy and that’s only one tempo but a spectrum of sounds. We go from the UK to South Africa, Ghana, Portugal, Jamaica and St Lucia. Tek position.

How did you get into DJing?

I started doing random mixes on my laptop using Virtual DJ when I was in secondary school. I got decks eventually but I didn’t use them as much. I took it seriously when Nadia Rose needed a DJ for her shows.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best (yet the most tedious) thing about my job is travelling. Being a DJ has allowed me to visit and experience places I thought I wouldn’t see any time soon. It’s introduced me lots of amazing people along the way; I’ve met some legends and I love bringing people in on my music.

How did your working relationship with Nadia Rose come about?

Nadia saw me performing at a show five or six years ago. I was the only one she enjoyed watching so she hit me up on Twitter to link up for a session and we’ve been working ever since.

You recently produced Big Woman by Nadia rose, how did the song come about and did you expect the reception the song has had so far?

I started making this instrumental on the bus on the way back from studio. The melody was just looping in my head and usually when that happens I know I’m going to feel strong about the riddim. The next morning I did a draft then sent it to Nadia. She liked it, we recorded a draft and it banged. Fast forward a year, we finished recording vocals, got it mixed & mastered (which became very daunting at one point) and shot the video ft. Grace Victory as lead dancer. I cried at the video shoot because I couldn’t believe the turn out and people were genuinely vibzing to my music. The process made believe this song was going to make waves.

What is your earliest musical memory?

Skanking in the front room with my mum to Sticky ft Miss Dynamite – Booo!

If you could DJ forever or Produce forever what would you pick?

I love to DJ and my love for it continues to grow, however my heart is with music production. There are too many things in life that inspires my production and me, I couldn’t give it up. I have tried and failed.

Food you could eat everyday?

A Toasted bagel with butter and cheese.

Advise for budding DJ’s?

You must keep practicing and listening to music; most importantly, mix the music you enjoy listening to but don’t limit yourself or be afraid to expand your library.

Plans for 2018?

In 2018 I aim to establish myself as a producer – releasing projects with my name in the front, secure a booking agent – more solo DJ’s, gigs nationally & internationally, working with more artists, get my own studio & win Best Producer at the Mobo’s & GRM Rated Awards.
