Introducing Black Girl Festival 29.10.17 : It’s Time To Celebrate Black British Women [@blackgirlfest]

Black Girl Festival is a one day festival celebrating Black British women Past, present & future with arts, workshops, panels , a marketplace & entertainment for all ages.

Founded by Paula Akpan @PaulaAkpan Co-founder of the ‘I’m Tired Project’ & Nicole Crentsil @NKrstyal  founder of Unmasked women , Black Girl Festival will be a day long festival filled with activities for women and girls to explore the ideology of what it means to be a black women In the UK. The festival will give black women and girls the chance to have open conversations that simply do not exist in mainstream media or even within every day conversation. Communication is key within the black community. To not only further our knowledge of ourselves but to evolve as black females living in the UK. Black women are a demographic that have been taught to be strong but strength is greater in numbers and unity is something that this Festival symbolizes.

 

Both are passionate about celebrating and championing black women and wanted to create a festival that showcases London’s talented creative community of black British women.

The day will see a  panel called ‘When I grow up’ – a media focused conversation for young women. Led by Executive Director & Co-Founder of Black Pride , Phyll Opuko-Gyimah. 

 

Award winning blogger, presenter and creative director THE SLUMFLOWER will chair a panel. Discussing the natural hair movement and the significance of natural hair for black women.

 

BBZ will host a workshop on gender and sexuality.

Trio Podcast and art collective Sistren will be hosting the evening entertainment with a set by Gal-dem’S Music editor and DJ Tone.

Come down next Sunday to experience a tone of appreciation and celebration of black culture. A great way to end Black History Month 2017!
