Esteemed Singer-Songwriter KIRBY [@singkirbysing] Puts Pen to Paper On New Single “We Don’t Funk” / Shares Details On Upcoming EP

Memphis, Tennessee native KIRBY is well known in the world of music. Prior to her breakout as a soloist, the multi-hyphenate wrote for the likes of Rihanna (on “FourFiveSeconds,”) Demi Lovato (“Die With You”), and other A-list talents. Now, the singer is in search of more, releasing her latest single “We Don’t Funk” days ago.

The sultry and zesty record lays bare KIRBY’s yearn for a one-night stand. Told in a quirky and fun way, the single quickly establishes the acts songwriting abilities across the two minutes and three seconds. “We Don’t Funk” stands as the third offering lifted from KIRBY’s forthcoming EP Sis., due for release on January 31st.

Briefly speaking to KIRBY about her latest venture as an independent act, the singer unpacks on her journey to date and goals in music going forward:

GUAP: How would you describe the direction you’re growing in now releasing your solo work?

KIRBY: I make music for the girl I used to be and the woman I’m becoming. It’s soulful without repeating the past. It’s a future classic.

What do you look to offer the world as an artist?

KIRBY: If you can’t get your best friend on the phone and you and your boyfriend just had a fight, I want you to put my music on and feel like you’re talking to your best friend. If you just fell in love and can’t find the words to describe how happy you feel, I want you to listen to my music and feel like I literally wrote that love song for you.  If you’re standing naked in the mirror, looking at your stretch marks and for the first time feel confident about your body, I want you to put on my music while you dance in the mirror.

What’s different in your approach to being an artist vs a songwriter?

KIRBY: The level of transparency. You can’t always say what you want in an artist’s song because that might not be their truth. As an artist, I can give my personal experiences 100%.
