Hit BBC 3 show ‘People Just Do Nothing’ [@kuruptfm] wins BAFTA

Air Max, music and ‘the Mayor of Hounslow’.

BBC 3 mockumentary People Just Do Nothing won a well deserved BAFTA for best comedy show, at this years award ceremony, beating rival shows Fleabag, Flowers and Camping. The show, which originally aired on YouTube, was created by Allan Mustafa (MC Grindah), Steve Stamp (Steves), Hugo Chegwin (DJ Beats) and Asim Chaudry (Chabuddy G aka the Mayor of Hounslow). “Weirdos with cameras” follow the Kurupt FM crew, as they go about their daily lives running a pirate station in Brentford, much to the amusement of the huge fan base that the team has successfully built.

From music to MCing to fashion…

Ultimately it’s the creativity of these individuals that really stands out for me. The garage scene has been a huge part of UK music for years, but it’s never something that’s been explored in TV. From the music, to the MCing to the fashion, the show details a culture that is extremely relevant to the UK music scene, and has given us legends such as DJ Luck and MC Neat, Pied Piper and Shola Ama.

The rest are irrelevant

From working with Nando’s to a Comic Relief song with “Ed Sheerer”, the Kurupt FM crew aren’t stopping at just television. You can also catch them at a number of festivals this year including Latitude, Lovebox and Hideout, bringing the same energy to the stage that they do to your TV. From YouTube to BBC to a BAFTA in such a short space of time, the Kurupt crew are really putting in work and showing why 108.9 is the best, and “the rest are irrelevant”.
