Shahlaa Discovers [@shahlaatahira] X GUAP Issue 8

You didn’t know about Ella CR

Me and Ella CR go way, way back, in fact, it is crazy because we met in 2007 but I only found out she could sing in 2014. Not only can Ella CR sing, but she has also mastered using her voice as an instrument. She uses her loop pedal and her voice to literally create a live soundtrack. The timing and accuracy that is needed to create music live successfully makes Ella CR more than just a singer, she is a sound artist. But don’t take my word for it, Catch Ella CR performing at the #ShahlaaDiscovers stage on the 21st of July and check out her work and find out a bit about the Soundtress below….

Describe your sound in 3 Words.

Futurist soulful and conscious

Why is music so important to you?

It a way for my inner demons and fears to realise that that I can over come anything I sing my mind to. It’s a place where I can speak on issues that mean a lot to me like mental health the legalisation of weed and being a displaced black woman.

When your think about your biggest dreams, where does your mind take you?Traveling with my boyfriend Amine around the world playing my music outside of my extravagant caravan home serving home made burger and listening to the music and sounds from my mind

Hindsights a bitch, what do you wish you could of learnt earlier?

That I am a talented person and the person I talk too inside myself, my gut, that tingling feeling normally means you have a genius idea run with it.

I like you man, where do go to check out more?

If you Google me everything comes up just type in Ella CR and my album Short Frustrations will come up.. you can even Shazam me. On YouTube you can find my live performance under The Ella Experience on tour. As Kevin hart says, I’m a big deal.

Spotlight Track:

The only thing better than hearing your favorite song, is when you hear an artist you love making it their own. The latest visuals from young Paige Lihya confirms that once she puts her soulful vocals on any banger she is able to make it something special. But don’t take my word for it have a look…

Paige Lihya Cover: Childish Gambino & DJ Khaled – Redbone x Wild Thoughts

When I asked Paige Lihya why she chose to film visuals for this specific cover she said, “I’m a big fan of doing covers and finding ways to fit my style on to popular existing songs. ‘Redbone’ by Childish Gambino is a favourite of mine because of the unique melodies and funk vibe the instrumental gives off. ‘Wild Thoughts’ is such a catchy song that’s currently everywhere! I hear it at home, playing from passing cars, in my friends Snapchats etc I couldn’t escape that song. So I wanted to take the challenge of fusing the too songs together on a stripped back guitar beat and added my own vocal touches to it.”

Being able to hear Paige Lihya’s musical growth has been a beautiful journey. Her control of her tone and her experimental flow makes her stand out in an over populated UK music scene. If you’re new to Paige Lihya and have fallen in love like I did, stay up to date @PaigeLihya on the socials and catch her performing at #ShahlaaDiscovers stage on the 21st and 22nd of July.
